David Justin Miller - Fly Fishing Tips For Beginners

April 18, 2016

There are few things that David Justin Miller enjoys doing more than fly fishing, particularly on days when he is feeling burnt out or stressed by his studies. If you are new to the sport, you need to keep a couple of things in mind to make sure that you are accepted by your peers and you have the best chance for success.

David Justin MillerDon’t Wear Bright Clothing

It might not be immediately obvious as to why all of the people around you are wearing dark clothing, but once you have spent a couple of hours without coming close to getting a bit it should start to make sense. Fish have surprisingly good vision and will be easily spooked by bright clothing, so tone things down a little bit and limit yourself to greens and browns.

Get Organized

Make sure that you pack all of your gear before heading out on the trip and that it is all easy to access once you reach the water. Being disorganized may lead to you struggling through spools of spare line and old tackles to try and find the piece of equipment that you need, which may lead to you missing out on a good catch.

Observe

If you are completely new to the sport, David Justin Miller states that it is a good idea to head out with somebody who has more experience so that you can observe what they do. They will be able to show you the basics of setting up your line and how you should act while fishing to stand the highest chance of making a catch.
